History
Chitrakoot ('Hill of Wonders') is where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana spent 11.5 of their 14 years of Vanavas. Sages Atri, Anusuiya, Valmiki had ashrams here. Tulsidas wrote parts of the Ramcharitmanas here. The Mandakini river is as sacred as the Ganga.
Culture & People
Quiet intensely spiritual town with Tribal (Baiga, Gond) culture surrounding it. 5 AM barefoot Kamadgiri parikrama daily. Bundeli dialect and Alha-Udal folk ballads are unique. Dal-Baati (with ghee) is the local specialty.
